INDIVIDUAL ACTS THAT ARE SUFFICIENT ENOUGH FOR THE WHOLE WORLD

Climate change is a salient problem and a threat to our beautiful world for more than 8 years. It lives with us and affects our daily lives negatively, maybe unconsciously. However, climate change is not the real problem compared to our manners against the change. Have you ever thought of doing specialised or advocacy to stop or diminish climate change? I did but failed.

According to research conducted by Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC), two in three Americans rarely discuss climate change with their families. This is a miserable point of view for our world because as it is seen everywhere, the world is dying along with the living things inside of it. There are so many people who are trying to encourage citizens of the world to convey the importance of the situation. Their main aim is to accumulate more people so that it will become easier to prevent the world from dying. But why? Why are advocates searching for more people? This is where the difference begins.

Using individual vehicles instead of public transport
Having foods that include trans fat
Burning excess amount of oil and coal
Excessive utilisation of electricity in a single household

These are not the main causes of climate change yet, the vital ones. The list above includes some individual acts of the people around the world. Regardless of the country’s welfare and well-being, these actions taken by humans have severe outcomes for climate change. It is hard to comprehend the roughness of the situation from just reading a list or some facts from the internet but look at the thickness of the ozone layer, examine the variance in animals, see how humans have used forests as their own property. The collective acts of humans are destroying the world. In the meantime, no one is aware of their own voice. No one says anything about the places and people they work for.

Around the world, there are people who do not believe in climate change. No one can force them to believe. What we can do is abate their damage to the environment. We should start by limiting our usage of water and electricity. Someone could say: “ It doesn't matter whether we use resources sparingly or not until the big companies stop using.” It is a true way of thinking. However, if we add our load to the weight of the companies, the loss will become bigger.

As individuals, no one can stop those big factories from working and we shouldn't in some ways. We need them, we should try minimising the garbage and pollution. I would like to challenge everyone to do these 5 things within a month and see the results with their own eyes. It doesn't matter whether you believe in climate change or individuals acts or not. But please do not say anything before trying it. Afterwards, share the results, take a picture of your monthly expense before and after.

Turn off the tap while you are putting soap on your hands
The usage of water increased after COVID since people started washing hands more and more each day
Do not eat processed food
Limit using electricity whilst going to another room
Unplug anything that you do not use at that specific moment
Use public transport more often
